When life gets busy – veg box delivery

It’s time to order your Veg Box …

At Brimfields we know that life can be extremely busy. We all want to eat better, to try and shop locally as much as we can, and to cook healthier food. But with so much to do it can seem like an impossible task.

But it doesn’t need to be.  One of the reasons why our Veg Boxes are so popular is for the convenience factor.  We deliver fresh fruit and veg, that is as local as we can get, so you don’t have to fight the supermarkets. Picking fruit and veg at the supermarket is one of those chores that can really add to how much you loathe shopping. To order your veg box all you need to do is contact us (via email/text or even on Facebook) with:

  • Your name
  • Address
  • Your dislikes
  • Day of delivery

We will then pack your £12 Veg Box with everything you like, and nothing you don’t! And yep, that’s all for £12.

Tip: Don’t forget, we also sell rapeseed oil, fresh bread, eggs, whole foods and plenty of other items in our shop – ask us for a price list and we can add these to your Veg Box.

Times are A-changing

New plans for the Veg Shed …

We always want to do best by our customers, and we are really grateful for the support you have all given over the years. Brimfields is a local business, and without you it simply doesn’t exist.

However, it appears that our business is growing in a slightly different direction to the one it started off with. And, although we want to do what’s best for our customers, we can’t ignore the fact that whilst one area of our business is booming, other areas seemed to have slowed down.

So, starting next week (9th of February) we will be changing our Veg Shed shop times; reducing the days and driving the business in the direction of the majority of our customers – through Veg Boxes.

The shop will continue to offer a fantastic service and support those that still utilise it; but our days will be less. So … with that in mind our new shop times will be Wednesday and Friday – 8.30am-12.30pm.  We will continue to remind you of our new times, and will use our newsletter and social media to tell you about offers, seasonal information, and anything else we can think of.

As you’ve probably guessed, we want to free up more time to push the Veg Box delivery service that seems to be an extremely popular choice.

So, that’s Wednesdays and Fridays only … otherwise – might we suggest our Veg Boxes?

Chicken and bacon tomato pasta

We won’t lie, we’ve been pretty terrible when it comes to writing blog posts for our Brimfields website.  We weren’t quite sure that people would want to hear all about our latest crop of tomatoes, apples or even about our new range of whole foods (more of that later).  But, since we cook a lot and love using fresh, local produce, we thought that each week we would share a new recipe with you.

We love pasta but we find that the sauces people often use are packed full of salt, unwanted additives and even MSG; gross. Over the past few months we have been perfecting our own tomato sauce for pasta with our very own Brimfields Veg Shed ingredients.  So, here is our chicken and bacon pasta sauce, with no nasties.  We don’t tend to measure much in the Brimfields kitchen (and that includes wine), so forgive our rustic measuring and give it a try.

Fresh tomatoes – If you want a really tomatoey flavour then the more the merrier!

One onion

Clove or two of garlic

A handful of sweet basil

One stock cube (preferably chicken – with no MSG)

Chicken breast

Pratt’s rape seed oil

Add some Pratt’s rape seed oil to the pan (you can also use FryLite if you’re on Slimming World)

Chop your onion and crush your garlic and lightly fry

Add the chicken and bacon until cooked through – lightly season with black pepper

Chop up basil and tomatoes and add to the pan

Let the tomatoes soften and mix into the pan

Add 100ml-150ml of hot water to a stock cube and mix

Gently pour into the pan and let it simmer

In the last few minutes add the spinach to the pan and mix it in until it wilts

We like to serve this with wholemeal pasta and top it off with some vine tomatoes that have been roasting in the oven. It really doesn’t take long at all, minimum fuss, not packed full of fat and ingredients you can’t even read and it really does taste rather yummy.

Brimfields at the Alresford Show

It seems a distant memory now, but on Saturday 7th September, Brimfields was at the Alresford Show.  We were not just bumbling around, looking at fancy tractors and drinking cider at the Chestnut Horses’ beautiful marquee (although we hope you were!), nope, we were there, running our very own fruit and veg stand.

It was several months ago that we decided we would trade at the show.  And, having never run our own trade stand before we were slightly nervous about what to expect.  A LOT of preparation went on behind the scenes, and maybe a sleepless night or two.  But, it was worth every second of effort, and then some.

Despite spending the night before worrying if our gazebo would still be standing in the morning, we didn’t let any amount of rain affect us.

Brimfields - Alresford Show 2

We wanted our stand to show just a little of what Brimfields has to offer.  From sumptuous summer strawberries that we served at the show with cream, to our homemade jams (that we served with homemade scones) and of course, our locally sourced fruit and veg.  We were overwhelmed by all the support.  We hoped many of our friends and family would turn up, which they did, but we were grateful for all the support from you lovely lot.

The Alresford Show went without a hitch.  We sold all our strawberries, cream, we had no scones left, the fruit and veg flew off the stand towards the end and the jam went down a treat.

All that was left at the end were three very tired, but extremely happy members of the Brimfield team.  Mr Brimfield himself was buzzing.

So, a huge thank you to all those who came to see us at the show.  We look forward to seeing your in one of our Veg Sheds soon… and we can’t wait for the Alresford Show 2014!

Brimfields is set to grace the Alresford Show

It’s a big week for Brimfields this week.  Not only did we launch our lovely new website, but  we are also set to make our first appearance at the Alresford Show on Saturday 7th September.

It is our debut show and we plan to make it a big one.  Lots of fantastic fruit and veg, punnet’s of strawberries and scones with clotted cream and jam.  Yum!

If you don’t yet have your ticket then don’t worry.  Just head on over to the Alresford Show website and purchase one.  Alternatively you can get one on the gate at the show.

Our stand is all the way at the back of the showground, near the Flowerpots pub.  So, if you fancy a little break then why not head over to see us, grab some strawberries and cream and pop to the Flowerpots for a pint of their finest ale?

The weather is still not sure what it wants to do on Saturday, but come rain or shine, the Brimfields crew will be there.  And, if you are a regular then don’t worry, our Veg Sheds will still be open, and at their usual time.

A reminder of those times…

The King Charles pub, Lovedon Lane from 8.30am till midday and The Roebuck pub, Stockbridge Road from 1pm till 5pm.  Our lovely Saturday lad, Pat will be manning the fort, so pop in and say ‘Hi’ to him, and of course, grab your fruit and veg.

We are looking forward to what is set to be a ‘Bobby dazzler’ of a Saturday for us at Brimfields and we hope you can be part of that too.

Welcome to Brimfields

Welcome to our brand, spanking new website.  It has been a long time coming but we are happy to announce that it is finally here.

For those of you that don’t already know about us now is a chance for you to get to know us.  We have been running for around three years now and are based at The King Charles pub in Kingsworthy and The Roebuck on the Stockbridge Road, Winchester.  From our Veg Shed’s we sell lots of lovely things, such as fruit, veg, bread, eggs, rapeseed oil, jams and juices.

Everything is sourced locally, and what can’t be found locally is found as near to Winchester as possible.
